At first, we pursued the option of having a landscaping company come in to build the boxes and fill them with soil, but $6,000 was a wee bit out of our range. Eric and I sat down to figure out the costs of wood and a new table saw and decided to do this whole thing DIY. He spent several weekends assembling the boxes and a pre-fabricated trellis for the cherry tomatoes to grow over. They are 18″ tall so that I can sit on the edge and tend the plants or lean over to reap their produce. I know some people say we should have built them higher so we could stand but I want to be able to sit.
